Back to Winning Ways

Kildare County 0-1 Athlone Town

Athlone bounced back from their recent winless run with a deserved victory at Station Road.

A Dean Lawrence own goal after 14 minutes was the difference, the goal coming from a cross by Emika Onwubiko that was unfortunately turned in by the defender.

Chances followed for both sides and Kildare were foiled by saves from John McGuinness and some poor finishing.

Late on, as Kildare pushed for an equaliser, Athlone had chances to wrap things up. McGee’s shot was saved at point blank range while Robbie Benson also came close.

The win leaves Athlone on 15 points and next week’s home clash with Limerick takes on added significance with Pat Scully’s side just 2 points ahead and lying in 6th position.
